When a Fire Stops Burning

When a Fire Stops Burning is composed of slate, glass, stone and composite stone. It is nearly monochromatic black. Created in 2015, it’s muted tone conveys depravity or loss of life while the small red pieces of glass are symbols of hope.  When a fire dies out at night, there are always small embers of hope to ignite new fire in the morning. This mosaic is on display at the Monroe County Convention Center and is a part of their permanent collection.
