Breath

Breath was a commissioned mosaic inspired by the 2nd movement of Brahm’s Requiem and Isaiah 40:6-8 which is invoked in the music – “The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them.” I was struck by the paradox of God’s breath which in Genesis gives life and here ushers death. The mosaic undulates, inhaling and exhaling. The tesserae are balanced but shift from stone at the bottom to glass at the top.
