The Cloud of Unknowing

The Cloud of Unknowing is a pictogram of a guide for contemplation found in the 14th century book of the same title written by an anonymous author/holy teacher. The author suggests that the way toward God is to abandon our preconceptions/words we use to understand God putting them in a “cloud of forgetting.” He insists, while there will always be a “cloud of unknowing” between us and God, we may experience God now by “piercing the cloud with sharp darts of longing love.” This book describes well my own spiritual journey as I too have shifted away from words and further into contemplation and visualization of the Divine. I have often found God to be silent and hidden, but find myself helplessly reaching out with the gifts of love I find in myself.
